This was announced by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma following the state cabinet meeting held on Tuesday, March 4.

The new amendment now ensures a clear demarcation between private universities and other specialised institutions. Additionally, a mandatory security clearance will be required before setting up any private university in the state.

In a related development, the cabinet also approved the establishment of two new private universities—EdTech Skills University in Tinsukia and Maa Kamakhya National University in Assam.
