GUWAHATI: The upcoming electronic city in Assam’s Jagiroad will be named as Ratan Tata Electronic City.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the decision in a press meet on March 4, emphasising Ratan Tata’s legacy in transforming industries, promoting innovation, and supporting the socio-economic progress of the state. The electronic city in Jagiroad is expected to boost Assam’s technology and electronics manufacturing sector, attracting investments from leading companies across India and beyond.
Assam’s semiconductor facility by the Tatas in Jagiroad, expected to begin production in 2026, will have a daily output of over 48 million chips, generating 27,000 direct and indirect jobs in the region.
The announcement comes after Assam’s ambitious industrialisation drive, Advantage Assam 2.0, which has secured ₹5.18 lakh crore in investment commitments. Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries pledged ₹50,000 crore to transform Assam into a technology and digital hub. Gautam Adani’s Adani Group committed ₹50,000 crore towards infrastructure, green energy, and industrial development in the region.
