Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma revealed this on X following the state cabinet meeting held on Tuesday, March 4.

The two proposed universities are EdTech Skills University in Tinsukia and Maa Kamakhya National University in Guwahati. These institutions are expected to contribute to skill development and higher education accessibility in the region.

Another key decision taken in the meeting was the amendment of the Assam Private Universities Act, 2007, ensuring private universities conform to government norms and maintain clear distinctions from other specialised universities.
