Assam, which now boasts of having the country’s longest bridge inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 26th of May, is eagerly waiting to achieve another historic feat.

With a total length of 18 km, the Dhubri-Phulbari bridge will surpass the Dhola Sadiya bridge to become the longest bridge in the country. Already sanctioned by the centre, the bridge connecting Dhubri in Assam with Phulbari in Meghalaya will cut down travelling time between the two places significantly.

Funded by Japan International Cooperation Agency, the construction of the bridge and NH-127-B will be done at an estimated cost of Rs 4044 crore.

The bridge is expected to play a key role in improving connectivity between the two states. “People of lower Assam will benefit significantly once the bridge is constructed,” said Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari.
