Assam To Launch Statewide ‘Gunotsav 2025’ To Assess School Education Quality

GUWAHATI: The Assam government is set to launch Gunotsav 2025 to assess the quality of school education across the state. Scheduled to begin in January, the exercise will cover over 44,000 schools in all 35 districts and involve nearly 40 lakh students from classes 1 to 9, according to an official statement released on Friday, December 6.

The 2025 edition will be implemented in three phases: the first phase will cover 11 districts from January 6 to 9, the second phase 14 districts from January 17 to 22, and the third phase 10 districts from February 5 to 8. Schools under the program include government and provincialised schools, tea garden model schools, Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas, Adarsha Vidyalayas, and tea garden-managed schools.

This year’s Gunotsav has also introduced several new features, including a mobile application for submission of evaluation reports, alongside the existing web portal. The app will enable external evaluators to submit observations and assess school uniforms as a distinct evaluation category, as directed by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Other key updates include assigning a 10% weightage of marks from annual exams to the evaluation process, integrating the schedule of Gunotsav into the academic calendar, and considering absentee students in school grading. On the day of external evaluation, teachers will be interchanged within their respective clusters for a more impartial assessment.

Additionally, the observation report from Gunotsav 2024 will be made available on the portal for 2025, ensuring a follow-up on prior recommendations. External evaluators will review whether corrective actions were implemented and upload their comments in the updated observation format.

Having been first introduced in 2017, five rounds of Gunotsav have been conducted over the years, encompassing all districts in the state.
