According to reports, he also urged the Assam State Election Commission to declare the election dates at the earliest.

“Our government is ready for the Panchayat elections, and we request the Assam State Election Commission to announce the dates promptly,” Dass reportedly said. “If the election dates are set for April 3, the election process will be completed by May 3. If the dates are announced on April 4, 5, or 6, the elections will conclude by May 4, 5, or 6.”

This year, Gram Panchayat elections will also be contested by independent candidates without party affiliations. However, political parties will field candidates for the Anchalik Panchayat and Zila Parishad elections. Existing norms regarding child and educational qualifications for candidates will continue to apply.

In a related development, the state government passed the Assam Panchayat (Amendment) Bill, 2025, introducing new guidelines for the settlement of Haats (markets). Under this amendment, Haats within Gaon Panchayat, Anchalik Panchayat, or Zila Parishad jurisdictions will be allotted through tenders for a period not exceeding one Panchayat year.
