Assam To Have 500 New Schools, Focus On Upgrading Government Education

GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday, April 26 announced that construction work for 500 new schools across Assam will begin shortly, as part of a ₹30,000 crore project to upgrade government high schools.

Sarma said the objective is to improve the quality of government education to a level that surpasses private institutions. "Education should be a right, not a privilege," the chief minister said.

The project will focus on strengthening school infrastructure, enhancing classroom facilities, and ensuring better learning environments. Sarma added that improving access to quality education in rural and urban areas remains a key priority for the state government.
