The NCFL-NE is expected to provide critical support to investigating agencies, aiding in the prevention, mitigation, and prosecution of cyber crimes. It will be equipped with advanced forensic tools and technology, making it a key resource for law enforcement in the fight against digital threats.

An official Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the establishment of the lab was signed on September 17 between the Assam Police and the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) under the Union ministry of Home Affairs, to bolster the state's capacity to handle complex cybercrime cases, reinforcing India's commitment to creating a safer digital space.

Incidentally, Assam has of late been plagued by cybercrime inflicting huge financial losses on the victims.
