Assam: Three Minors Among Five Dead As Landslide Strikes House In Karimganj

GUWAHATI: Five persons, including four of a family, were crushed to death while in sleep in a landslide that struck their house at Gainachora village (Bendargool) under Badarpur Police Station in Karimganj district late on Tuesday night.

The incident occurred at 12.45 am on Wednesday, June19, according to police.

Among the dead are three minors, including a three-year-old boy.

Upon receiving the information, a team from Badarpur Police Station along with SDRF personnel visited the spot and retrieved the five bodies after a three-hour-long operation.

The deceased have been identified as Roymun Nessa (55), wife of Abdul Karim, and her three children -- Sahida Khanam (18),  Jahida Khanam (16)  and Hamida Khanam (11) --  besides Mehdi  Hassan (3), son of  Mahimuddin of Tikorpara village under Badarpur Police Station.

The Assam flood situation  has turned grim with the death toll reported at 26 as on Tuesday, June 18.

Karimganj is the worst affected district with 1,52,133 people reeling under flood waters, a bulletin by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority said.
