GUWAHATI: Students residing in hostels of government, provincialised colleges and state universities will be provided a subsidy of Rs. 700 per month through direct benefit transfer (DBT) by the Assam government.
This initiative has been taken up to provide some financial relief to parents of students residing in these hostels.
Registrars of eight state universities and principals of colleges have been asked to submit their proposals within August 31 by the Assam higher education directorate.

An office memorandum issued by the department stated that the subsidy will be provided for 10 months in one academic year.
