Assam: Six communities to be granted with scheduled tribe status

GUWAHATI: Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Jual Oram today made clear on Twitter that the matter of granting scheduled tribe status to six communities of Assam is being considered actively by the Central Government. 

Notably, the State Government has been taking decisive steps for granting scheduled tribe status to six communities of the state and the matter has been pursued with the Central Government on a regular basis. 

The Chief Minister of Assam is making all out effort to fulfil the demand of six communities – Koch Rajbangsi, Moran, Motok, Chutia, Tai Ahom and Adibashi (Tea Tribe) – for scheduled tribe status.
 
State and Central Governments have also held several rounds of talks with the representatives of these communities and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has also participated in discussions with the State Government and representatives of six communities.
