Assam: Singer Archana Mahanta to be Cremated with State Honors

GUWAHATI: People of Assam will bid adieu to renowned singer Archana Mahanta as she will be cremated with full State Honours in Guwahati on August 27, Thursday. 


The last rites will be performed at Nabagraha Crematorium at 4 PM. 
 

Chief Minister of Assam, Sarbananda Sonowal along with other ministers and noted personalities of the Assamese film industry condoled Archana Mahanta's demise and poured condolences to the bereaved family.


“Anguished at the demise of renowned Assamese folk singer Archana Mahanta baidew. Today, we have lost a shining star among the cultural stalwarts of the state. I offer my deepest condolences and join all her well-wishers and fans in prayers for the departed soul,” tweeted CM Sonowal.

In the same vein, Guwahati MP Queen Oja wrote, “Deeply saddened to know about the demise of Veteran Assamese Singer Archana Mahanta. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, supporters and admirers.May God bestow eternal peace to the departed soul." 


“Words may not suffice to express my heartfelt sorrow that I feel for the passing away of Veteran Assamese Singer Archana Mahanta. She breathed her last at Health City Hospital,Ghy. She was suffering from brain stroke. It's a huge loss for all of us," wrote actor Aimee Baruah.


"I am deeply saddened by the news of veteran Assamese singer Archana Mahanta baideu left us forever. My thoughts and prayers are with her family. A big loss for Assamese music industry. We are going to miss one of the finest singer. Om Shanti," tweeted Ashok Singhal, MLA and Chairman of GMDA.


Widow of Late Khagen Mahanta, Archana Mahanta is survived by son Angaraag Papon Mahanta and daughter Kingkini Mahanta.
