GUWAHATI: Mid day meal workers in Assam can look forward to a happy puja, as not just their salary has been raised but the total monthly raise of the last seven months will be credited to their bank accounts all at once, just before puja.
Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced that 1,18,998 midday meal cooks and helpers will be given an additional salary of Rs. 500 by the Assam government, in addition to the Rs. 1000 they get from the Centre.
The same will be effective from 1st April 2020 and the seven months lapse in payment will be credited before puja together.
A total of Rs. 60 crore expense will be incurred by the Assam government annually for the same.
