GUWAHATI: Assam successfully established a new Guinness World Record for the largest single-frame Bihu dancing performance in the folk-dance category on Thursday.
On April 13, about 11,000 folk dancers and drummers gathered in Guwahati's Sarusajai Stadium to perform the Bihu dance to set a world record.
Singers and musicians playing traditional instruments like dhol, taal, gogona, toka, pepa, and xutuli were among those who performed.
According to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the event was organised by the Assam government with the goal of "organizing the largest Bihu dance performance at a single venue and making it into the Guinness Book of World Records in the folk-dance category."
The performers were chosen from around the state, with at least 70% of them being women and 30% being men. With 1,400 performers in attendance, Dibrugarh had the highest presence, while South Salmara had the least, with only 20.
The most important component of the process was choreographing a routine that 11,140 dancers from around the state could perform in unison. The event was held at the Sarusajai Stadium, and the dancers performed for about two hours.
Officials from the Guinness Book of World Records were there, and the record will be certified on April 14 in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Assam Government also announced on Wednesday to give ₹25,000 to each of the 11,000+ participants of the Mega Bihu celebration along with master trainers and the reserve dancers as a mark of gratitude.
