Assam: Senior Citizen Declared As Foreigner Dies, Family Refuses To Accept Body

GUWAHATI: Phalu Das (70), a man lodged in a detention camp in Assam’s Goalpara district died on Thursday, October 24, due to deteriorating health.

Das was a resident of Satemari area of Nalbari district’s Mukalmuwa region. He was declared a foreigner and sent to a detention camp in 2017.

After his death, Das’ family has refused to accept the body.

According to reports, his family is demanding that he should be declared an Indian or else they will not accept the body. 

They further alleged that Das was declared a foreigner despite having every document.

Earlier this month, a similar case came to light where the family refused to accept the body of a man who was died in a detention camp. The deceased was identified as Dulal Chandra Paul (65) who died on October 13 at GMCH after falling ill in a detention camp where he was lodged for years.
