Assam Secures Quarterfinal Spot In Santosh Trophy

 

GUWAHATI: In the final round of the 77th National Football Championship for the Santosh Trophy held at Yupia, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam showcased their determination as they battled against Goa in a thrilling match that ended in a 3-3 draw. The match was intense from the start, with both teams fighting tooth and nail to secure a spot in the knockout quarterfinals.

Goa started strong, taking the lead early on and managing to maintain their advantage for a significant part of the game. However, Assam fought back fiercely, refusing to go down without a fight. With just minutes left on the clock, Goa found themselves trailing 3-2.

But in a turn of events, substitute Joshua D’Silva came off the bench to score a crucial equalizer in the 89th minute, salvaging a vital point for Assam.

Despite the draw, Assam managed to secure the fourth spot in Group A, earning themselves a place in the knockout quarterfinals of the tournament. It was a testament to their tenacity and fighting spirit, as they overcame numerous challenges to advance to the next stage of the competition.

In the first two quarterfinals on March 4, Services, the team that tops Group A, will play the team that places fourth in Group B, while Goa, which grabbed the second slot, will play the team that places third in Group B.

Assam will play the first game against the winner of Group B the following day, while Kerala will play the team that finishes second in Group B on March 5 in the final quarterfinal encounter.
