GUWAHATI: The Secondary Board of Education, Assam (SEBA), and the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) have decided not to conduct compartment examinations for class 10 and 12 students due to the prevailing pandemic situation.
Reportedly, the move will be adversely impacting 20,000 students of Class 10 alone, who would otherwise have enrolled for the compartment exams, but would now be losing a complete academic year.
While the Chairman of SEBA, RC Jain feigned ignorance when probed about the issue, Nayan Jyoti Sarma, Controller of Examination (SEBA) confirmed the same.
"The compartment examinations will not be held this year as it is not possible to conduct the exam amid such a situation. As such, we have not notified the students about applying for the same when we disbursed the results this year, as we usually do. The matter is still under discussion on how the exams will be conducted next year," Sarma informed G Plus.
However, he denied having data on the number of students who would have appeared for compartment exams and said that 20,000 was an exaggerated number.
Notably, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will be conducting the compartment examinations of both class 10 and 12, maintaining all COVID-19 guidelines.
Reportedly, CBSE has also increased the number of examination centers in Guwahati from two to five to prevent overcrowding. The centers in the northeastern region have also been doubled to 60 from the earlier 30.
