Assam's Goalpara Receives Best District Award Under Water Conservation Category

GUWAHATI: Goalpara district of Assam has received the National Water Award 2019 for Best District, Water Conservation, and Management Category today during the National Water Awards Ceremony.

The award ceremony was organised at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, and was inaugurated by Vice President of India M Venkaiah Naidu. Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat conferred the Award.


The award includes the District’s works for RWH/Ground Water Recharge in AWCs, Water Purifiers in schools, the convergence of schemes with MGNREGA, Fisheries, Soil Conservation, Irrigation for creation of assets and livelihoods, and conservation efforts at Urpad Beel.


G Plus spoke to Varnali Deka, Goalpara Deputy Commissioner who stated that the effort to achieve this award was "multi-faceted". 


"In addition to water conservation and management, we focused on asset creation. It was also important to generate awareness among the younger generation. This has also created better participation," Deka further added.
