GUWAHATI: A rape suspect has been admitted to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) after sustaining bullet injuries during a police encounter in Udalguri on June 24.

The incident occurred during a raid in Udalguri's Mazbat area on Monday night, June 24, when officers attempted to apprehend Hafijul Ali, who is allegedly one of the five accused in a gang-rape case of a minor on June 22.
During the operation, Ali tried to flee, leading the police to open fire. Critically injured in the gunfire, he was immediately transported to GMCH for medical treatment.
Authorities have not yet released further details about the status of the investigation or any additional arrests. Meanwhile, the investigation into the alleged rape continues as the accused undergoes treatment at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital.
