Tezpur: The Congress party’s election promises continued with Priyanka Gandhi Vadra launching the party’s “5-Guarantee” campaign at Tezpur on March 2, Tuesday. The promises include a law that nullifies the CAA; 5 lakh government jobs; raising tea workers’ wages to Rs 365; free electricity up to 200 units per household and Rs 2,000 monthly income support to all housewives.

Launching the campaign, Priyanka claimed that “the people of Assam were cheated by a party five years ago that promised them 25 lakh jobs but gave them CAA instead.” According to the Congress leader, her party was “not making empty promises.”

Explaining the rationale of the 5 guarantees, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) Chief, Ripun Bora said the party had identified the top issues facing the people through the ‘Asom Basaon Ahok’ Yatra and was now presenting its solutions to the public.

Pradyut Bordoloi, the party’s Campaign Committee Chief, said that if voted to power the party would bring a law in the Assam assembly to nullify CAA. Interestingly, the party’s face from the Barak valley former MP Sushmita Dev was silent on the CAA while talking about other benefits of the 5-guarantee campaign.

Delving on the fifth guarantee of Rs 2,000 to housewives, she said, “Society doesn’t recognise the work women do as ‘work.
