The contraband was packed in 35 soap boxes. Police said the bus had come from Mizoram giving rise to suspicion that the heroin was sourced from Myanmar via the neighbouring state.

“Only investigation will reveal the source of the heroin and its intended distribution destination,” a police official said. “There could be more people involved in the network,” he said.

In a major drug haul recently in Assam, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in collaboration with the Assam Police and the CRPF, carried out a series of successful operations against drug trafficking networks on April 6. The first major seizure took place when NCB officials, acting on intelligence, intercepted a car in Silchar in  Assam’s Cachar district. The vehicle contained 9.9 kg of methamphetamine, concealed in the boot of the car. The sole occupant, a resident of Churachandpur in Manipur, was arrested on the spot.

Later that evening, another joint operation led to the interception of a vehicle in Silchar. Upon searching the vehicle, officers discovered 20.5 kg of methamphetamine, hidden inside the spare tire. Two individuals from Churachandpur, Manipur, were arrested in connection with this haul.
