GUWAHATI: Police authorities have recovered 22 dogs, 10 of which were already dead, in Borpathar area of Golaghat district on Monday, July 1. These dogs were illegally being transported to Nagaland.
According to a report by the Times of India, Additional Superintendent of Police (Golaghat), Surajit Singh Paneswar said that 10 dogs were found dead and veterinarians have performed autopsies to find out the cause of their deaths, while 12 others are under the care and attention of the district veterinary department officials.
Based on preliminary investigation, the dogs were being carried from Dergaon to Nagaland to be sold in clandestine markets.

A case has been registered under Section 379 (punishment for theft) and 428 (mischief by killing or maiming animals) of the Indian Penal Code read with Section 11 (treating animals with cruelty) of the Prevention to Animals Act 1960.
Further, the driver of the vehicle carrying the animals has been arrested and the good laden truck has been seized.
It should be noted that the vehicle met with an accident at Borpathar and a youth was injured. Following the incident, locals raided the truck and found the dogs tied up inside.
