Assam Police Claims Record High Conviction, Charge Sheet Rates

GUWAHATI: The State Crime Conference for September 2024 was held at the Police Headquarters in Guwahati on Monday, September 9.

The event witnessed the participation of senior police officials from across Assam, focusing on the state's crime investigation strategies and outcomes.

After the conference, Assam's Director General of Police (DGP), GP Singh, took to the social media platform X to highlight the state's progress in criminal investigations. In his statement, Singh asserted, “We are making steady improvement in investigation processes with the charge sheet percentage climbing to 65.15% and conviction to 22.06%.”

He further noted that these figures represent some of the highest achievements in Assam since the beginning of the 21st century. The improvement in both charge sheet filing and conviction rates marks a significant stride in the state's law enforcement capabilities, reflecting a stronger focus on thorough investigations and effective prosecution.

As Assam continues to address its law and order challenges, the State Crime Conference serves as a crucial platform for evaluating progress and setting new goals for the future of policing in the region.
