GUWAHATI: In a significant development, Assam police apprehended one Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, Amir Hussain, on Friday night for his alleged involvement in the smuggling of Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN).
The arrest took place during a raid conducted at Rupohihat.
As per media reports, Hussain has been engaged in the illicit trade of counterfeit money for quite some time now.
The Rupohihat Police took him into custody after the raid.
This arrest follows the recent recovery of an FICN printing machine and a substantial amount of fake notes from Hussain's residence.
The police's discovery of these items further strengthens the case against the accused.
Nagaon Police is interrogating Hussain to gather further details and additional evidence related to FICN smuggling.
Rupahihat Police, speaking to G Plus, said, "Hussain was arrested on Friday with the FICN. He has been involved in FICN smuggling for a long time."
