Assam: People Above 50 Years of Age to Get COVID-19 Vaccination from Next Week

GUWAHATI: The Assam Government will start the inoculation of citizens above 50 years from the first week of March. 


Principal Secretary of Health and Family Welfare Department, Government of Assam Samir Kumar Sinha announced this in a press conference of the National Health Mission on February 22.


People above the age of 50 years will have to register their names through the Co-WIN portal to get vaccinated. 


Sinha added that administering of the COVID-19 vaccine to such a huge population will be a challenging task, but the health department will be creating mass awareness so that every eligible citizen register themselves. The department will also make adequate arrangements at every vaccination centre to tackle the situation in case of any side-effects. 


As house-to-house vaccination drive will not be feasible, the health department will be providing transportation as necessary to bring people to the nearby vaccination centers.
