Assam Panchayat Polls: BJP Wins Kamrup (M) with clear Majority

GUWAHATI: The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) won the panchayat elections in Kamrup (Metro) district with a clear majority, the results of which were declared on December 13.  

The party swept all six seats of zila parishad member in the district, while it clinched 16 out of 21 seats of AP members. The Congress secured four seats of AP members followed by AGP which managed only one seat.

On the other hand, BJP clinched 17 out of 21 seats for GP president. Further, it won 134 seats for ward member out of 210 seats; whereas Congress managed to win 46 seats for ward member.

“Our main objective is to provide a corruption-free Panchayati Raj System. Counting is being held at 40 centres where our District Presidents, in-charges, LAC in-charge are working as a team,” said Dilip Saikia, BJP state general secretary.
