Assam MLA Allegedly Slaps Janata Bhawan Employee, Later Denies Charge

GUWAHATI: An employee of Janata Bhawan was allegedly slapped by Joyanta Basumatary, Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA), from Sidli Constituency, but the legislative member when questioned denied such allegation. 

The incident according to sources at Janata Bhawan, took place at the office of the Secretary, Transport Department, Janata Bhawan on August 24, 2022 at around 3.30 PM. An employee of the office said, Bibhuti Bhattacharya was allegedly slapped by United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) MLA Joyanta Basumatary when the MLA went to meet Adil Khan, Secretary, Transport Department. 

“Bibhuti Bhattacharya, Junior Assistant in the office asked for a visitor’s slip from the MLA, but he denied to provide a slip and slapped him,” a letter written to the All-Assam Worker Association by Bibhuti Bhattacharya said.

Talking to G Plus, MLA Joyanta Basumatary denied the allegation. He said, “When I went to meet Transport Secretary, Adil Khan, an employee asked for visiting slip. My personal assistant told him that since I am an MLA and I wouldn’t require any slip. He further mentioned that the MLA meets even the Chief Minister without any slip.” 

He added that the employee did not listen and started arguing with us. The employee pointed finger towards the MLA to which the MLA just lowered his hand. 

President of All Assam Worker Association, Pradip Dutta said that they have met the Chief Minister and have submitted a written complaint. 

The association informed that the Chief Minister will inform the speaker of the Legislative Assembly regarding the issue.
