GUWAHATI: A local court in the Goalpara district of Assam on Friday, May 6, sentenced life imprisonment to a man for the rape and murder of a minor girl in 2018.
The convicted man identified as Sreenus Orang alias Kalu Munda had committed the crime on a six-year-old girl in a paddy field in the Goalpara district, news reports say.
The incident had occurred at the Simlitola tea estate in Assam.
According to reports, Orang had lured the victim and took her to the paddy field where he committed the crime.
On May 6, S Dhar, Judge of Special POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act) court of Goalpara passed the life imprisonment judgment.
The advocate of the victim Sanjay Sarma told the media that the dead body of the girl was found after three days from the field. He further informed that the accused was absconding since December 2018 and was arrested by Assam Police from Rangjuli railway station.
