Assam: Majuli-Jorhat Ferry Services E-ticketing Portal Launched

GUWAHATI: An E-ticketing portal for Majuli-Jorhat ferry services was launched by Assam Chief Minister (CM) Himanta Biswas Sarma and Transport and Industry Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary today, September 27. This comes eighteen days after the tragic Nimati Ghat ferry accident of September 8 which led to the death of three passengers.

The portal has been developed by the Assam Electronics Development Corporation Ltd. (AMTRON) and will be used for other ferry routes of the state in a phased manner.

To book an E-Ticket for Majuli-Jorhat Ferry Services, passengers can register at the portal asiwt.in and enter their details. It is to be followed by entering the source of journey and destination, selection of ferry, followed by payment. The generated E-Ticket is downloadable.

Following the Nimati Ghat incident, concerned citizens have described a lack of proper management and ticketing systems. They claimed that single-engine ferries were regularly overloaded. All single-engine ferries have since been banned on the route.

Addressing media persons at the launch, Chief Minister Sarma said, "We aim to develop waterways as an engine of growth in Assam while ensuring safe and hassle-free travel for the Inland Water Transport ( IWT) passengers."
