Arunachal Pradesh has two NH projects covering 815 km, with an investment of ₹8,035 crore. Meanwhile, Nagaland, Manipur, and Tripura have fewer projects with shorter road lengths. The total investment in approved NH projects across the Northeast stands at ₹43,322 crore, while projects currently under construction amount to ₹87,363 crore.
In terms of budget allocation for NH development and maintenance, Assam leads the pack with ₹5,329 crore, followed by Arunachal Pradesh with ₹3,488 crore. Nagaland has been allocated ₹1,227 crore, Manipur ₹1,508 crore, and Tripura ₹514 crore.
The completion of these highway projects depends on various factors, including land acquisition, environmental and forest clearances, utility shifting, and the financial stability of contractors. Authorities have set a target to complete all ongoing NH projects in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, and Tripura by 2028.
To prevent delays, measures such as streamlining land acquisition, conducting regular project reviews, expediting approvals, and improving coordination with state governments and stakeholders have been implemented at grassroots level.
