Assam: Kaziranga National Park Closes With Highest Number Of Visitors Ever

GUWAHATI: The Kaziranga National Park located in Golaghat District of Assam attracted the highest number of visitors in the year 2021-2022.  A total of 2,55,676 tourists—highest-ever recorded number—visited Kaziranga, starting October 2021 to May 31 2022. Of these, 1687 were international visitors and the remaining 2,53,989 were domestic, Indian visitors.

The UNESCO World Heritage site collected revenue of Rs 6,24,08,654 in 2021-2022 (the last tourism year), informed a Kaziranga National Park Official to the media on Wednesday.

Kaziranga National Park has closed down for tourists starting today.

The national park usually remains closed between June and September because of the annual floods and reopens in November.

A park official said that the visit of President Ram Nath Kovind helped boost the tourist numbers and increase the total turnover this year. The official cited social media engagement and increased number of VVIPs visiting the park this year as reasons behind the increased turnover.

The highest number of tourists was recorded in the month of December. A total of 55,773 tourists visited Kaziranga National Park in the month of December.
Talking to a local media channel, tour operators and others working in the tourism said that this year has been record-breaking in terms of the number of tourists visiting Kaziranga. “We are very satisfied with the business turnover this year. We would like to thank the domestic tourists for visiting and spreading the word. We would also like to thank the park guides and other professionals in the tourism sector for striving to provide tourists with a quality tour and stay. We hope that the experience this year encourages us so that we can continue our efforts to make Kaziranga even more loved and popular," said a business owner in Kaziranga.
