Assam: Journalists From Assam Present Memorandum To President Murmu To Promote Patharighat

GUWAHATI: In a significant development, two senior journalists from Mangaldoi, Bhargav Das and Mayukh Goswami, held a meeting with the President of India, Draupadi Murmu, at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Wednesday and presented a memorandum highlighting ten crucial issues, focusing on the recognition and promotion of the historic Patharighat, renowned for the sacrifice of the Satkuri martyrs.

Accompanying the journalists were Mangaldoi MP Dilip Saikia and Sipajhar MLA Dr Parmananda Rajbongshi.

The nearly 30-minute long meeting transpired with a sense of sincerity and earnestness, during which the President conveyed her keen interest in visiting the famed Patharighat, recognised as a distinctive landmark in the annals of history.

Notably, this meeting holds significance as it marks the first time that a President of the country has engaged with the topic of the historic Patharighat. Prior to this, no such interaction had taken place between the nation's President and advocates of this monumental site.

The Patharighat region, earlier known as Patharughat has long been associated with the 1894 peasant revolt, which left an indelible mark on India's struggle for independence.

Popularly known as Patharughatar Ran (Battle of Patharughat), the uprising was against the exploitative colonial British rule in the region.
