Assam: Joint Secretary Of Hill Areas Department Suspended Over Irregularities

 

GUWAHATI: The Government of Assam has taken strict action against Naren Chandra Basumatary, ACS, Joint Secretary to the Government of Assam, Hill Areas Department, Dispur, for his alleged involvement in large-scale irregularities. In a significant development, Basumatary has been suspended with immediate effect.

The suspension order was issued by the Governor of Assam in light of the findings of the High Power Committee constituted under government order No. FISH 148/2021/132 dated July 10. The committee's report highlighted irregularities in the regularisation of employees at the Assam Fishery Development Corporation Limited (AFDCL) during Basumatary's tenure as the Managing Director.

Basumatary has been placed under suspension under Rule 6(1)(a) of The Assam Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1964. As per the order, the headquarters of Basumatary during the suspension period will be Guwahati.

The decision to suspend Naren Chandra Basumatary comes as a stern measure to address the alleged irregularities and maintain the integrity of the government departments. This suspension serves as a reminder that any malpractice or misconduct by government officials will be dealt with swiftly and firmly.
