“Hon'ble Union MoS Shri @PmargheritaBJP Unveils Rs 50 Crore Joymoti Memorial Complex in Sivasagar,” Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to X to share an update on the project.

This complex will span 15 bighas of land near Joymoti High School and is funded by the Directorate of Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes, Assam. The first phase of the project has already received funding of ₹6.85 crore from the Tai Ahom Development Council.

The MJMC will further feature a museum, a cultural centre (kalakshetra), an auditorium, and a Tai language school. It will additionally include a statue of Joymoti Konwari, showcasing her pivotal role in Assamese history. There are also plans for a war memorial at the site of the Battle of Alaboi, where 10,000 Assamese soldiers fought the Mughal army in 1669.

Joymoti Konwari is remembered amongst the Assamese people for her bravery and loyalty. She endured 14 days of torture and ultimately sacrificed her life in 1671 at Jerenga Pathar, refusing to reveal the location of her husband, Prince Gadapani, who had gone into exile to escape persecution.

The 17th-century Ahom princess earned the honorific ‘Mohiyoshi’ for her sacrifice in service of her motherland.
