GUWAHATI: The Assam cabinet has approved the launch of a web portal to ensure a 25% seat reservation for children from economically weaker sections in unaided private schools.

This was disclosed by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma following a state cabinet meeting held on Wednesday, February 5.
The initiative has been taken in compliance with the Right to Education (RTE) Act, ensuring that underprivileged students have access to quality education in private institutions.
In another key decision, the cabinet has proposed to extend the renewal period for Fair Price Shop (FPS) licenses from three years to five years.
