GUWAHATI: The Assam cabinet has approved the Draft Assam Value Added Tax (Amendment) Rules, 2025, to monitor the movement of taxable goods from outside the state.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma disclosed this decision following a state cabinet meeting held on Wednesday, February 5.
The new rules impose restrictions on the import of goods into Assam via road, rail, river, air, or post, ensuring that no goods exceeding 250 litres are received without valid documents.
Additionally, the cabinet has introduced strict measures to prevent illegal storage and resale of petrol and diesel.
