GUWAHATI: The Assam government has announced that 200 lower primary schools will adopt Mising as their medium of instruction to cater needs of the Mising community. The Mising community can now receive education in their mother tongue or home language.

The Department of School Education has issued a notification confirming that from the academic session 2025-2026, the specified lower primary schools will officially be categorised as "Mising Medium Lower Primary Schools" for all purposes with three-language formula—Mising, Assamese, and English.
Assam Education Minister, Ranoj Pegu, took to X, saying, “On this joyous and festive Ali-A:ye Ligang day of the Mising community, I am delighted to share the good news that the Assam Government has officially notified Mising language as a medium of instruction in Lower Primary Schools (Class I to V) under the Department of School Education today.”

Furthermore, at the Upper Primary and High School levels, Mising students can study Mising as an optional/elective subject. The list, comprising 200 schools across Assam, has been enclosed in the order.
