GUWAHATI: Announcing lockdown extension, the Ministry of Home Affairs has issued a set of guidelines involving relaxation.

However, the government of Assam is yet to issue directives as to what will remain open starting from May 4.

Speaking to G Plus, Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup (M) Biswajit Pegu said, "There will certainly be some relaxation in Guwahati which has been put under green zone by the home ministry. However, people should not start speculating unless the state government issues revised guidelines."

He further added that market complexes, shopping malls, educational institutions, hospitality services, and large public gatherings will remain prohibited.

Earlier today, state health, finance and PWD minister Himanta Biswa Sarma held a meeting with the DCs and VCs of the state.

"To channelise Assam's administrative machinery to meet the post-lockdown rush, given that 30 of our districts are in Green Zone, I & @Pijush_hazarika held a VC with DCs. We advised that utmost precautions be taken to ensure we still follow a guarded approach," Sarma wrote on Twitter.

In the same vein, Chief Secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna told G Plus, "We need to keep a balance between lockdown and important economic activities so that any relaxation does not lead to sudden increase of Covid 19 cases. Our intention is to keep people safe as much as possible as any complacency will lead green to red soon."

Decisions on all the MHA relaxations will be taken in the next three days, he added.
