Assam Govt to Deduct up to 20% Salary of Employees in March

GUWAHATI: Assam State Finance Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, in a press meet, said that salaries of the state government employees might be deducted for the month of March and April 2020.

The Assam Government Employees'Association met with Sarma earlier and discussed the monetary issue. 

However, in a press conference Sarma informed that the salaries will not be deducted untill and positive cases of COVID-19 is found in the state and the government feels the need to take such monetary help.

The Minister further added that a salary cut of up to 20 percent will be deducted; however within the the next fiscal year the same will be refunded with an interest rate of 4.5 percent.

Fiscal 2019-20 will end on June 30, 2020 while fiscal year 2020-21 will begin on July 1, 2020.

Earlier on March 26, Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that Government of India (GOI) will pay the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) contribution of the employee as well as the employer (24%) for the next three months.
