Assam Govt announces Rs 50 lakh for Promotion of 'Village Rockstars'

GUWAHATI: The State Cabinet during a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Tuesday, decided to provide a financial aid of Rs 50 lakh for the promotion of Village Rockstars, which is the first-ever Assamese film nominated for the Oscars.

The State Cabinet has also decided to provide a  rebate of 50% in Entertainment Tax on movie tickets during the screening of Village Rockstars.

It is to be noted that the movie currently requires a budget of Rs 2 crore for its promotion. Renowned Assamese actor Adil Hussain has earlier urged the government to release Rs 5 crore for the promotion of the indigenous film, which has been selected as the only film from India in the category of Best Foreign Language Film.

Rima Das, the filmmaker, has earlier urged the govt over a tweet, "I am an independent filmmaker. My journey with this film began five years ago. I have made it with my own money and traveled with it all over the world. Now, when it’s gearing up to represent India, India needs to step forth and help it get there."
