GUWAHATI: Assam has greenlit a project aimed at modernising and enhancing the state's power distribution infrastructure, by approving the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Distribution Infrastructure Works, under the Modernisation and System Augmentation component of the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) by the Government of India.
The ambitious project comes with an estimated DPR cost of approximately ₹5,196.91 crore. Its primary objective is to revamp the existing power distribution system, making it more robust and technologically advanced. The envisioned improvements are expected to be a game-changer for Assam's electrical consumers, benefitting approximately 67 lakh individuals across the state.
The modernisation and system augmentation works are slated for completion by March 31, 2026. Once finalised, these upgrades will not only enhance the overall power distribution system but also ensure a more stable and uninterrupted electricity supply for both urban and rural areas in Assam.
