Assam girls win JNU students’ union polls

GUWAHATI: Two Assamese girls have managed to get elected in the recently-held Jawaharlal Nehru University Student's Union (JNUSU) polls. 

Srijani Bhaswa Mahanta who represented Students’ Federation of India (SFI) and Karabee Karabi Kakati representing All India Students’ Association (AISA) got elected to the post of councillors for the School of International Studies (SIS).

Srijani is the daughter of Assam Police ADGP, Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta and is a post-graduation first-year student while Karabi Kakati is a PhD research fellow.

This year’s election saw the highest voter turnout in past 6 years, with nearly 67.8 per cent. Over 5000 students exercised their mandate in the polls.
