Assam Gears Up For Yearlong Celebration Of Cultural Heritage

GUWAHATI: In an effort to recognise and celebrate Assam's vibrant socio-cultural legacies, the state is gearing up for exciting and eventful cultural events for the year 2023-2024. The events aim to highlight the diverse cultural heritage of Assam.

One of the major highlights of the upcoming cultural calendar is the Birth Centenary celebrations of Birbala Kanaklata Barua, scheduled to take place from December 21 to 23 in Gohpur. This commemorative event will honour the life and contributions of Birbala Kanaklata Barua, a prominent figure in Assam's history.

Another event on the horizon is the Sattriya Nritya Mahotsav, a national-level celebration of Sattriya dance and other classical dance forms. This festival will be held at the renowned Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra and promises to showcase the richness and elegance of Assam's traditional dance forms.

Additionally, also on the cards is the Sangeet Maharan, a series of musical events that aim to bring the best musical talents of the state to the forefront. The Maharan will encompass a variety of musical genres, including Jyoti Sangeet, Bishnu Rabha Sangeet, Rabindra Sangeet, Bhupendra Sangeet, and the energetic Bihu Nritya.

It is anticipated that these events will not only provide a platform for artists to showcase their talents but also offer audiences an opportunity to immerse themselves in Assam's cultural tapestry.
