Assam Floods: 15 dead, more than 42 lakh affected

GUWAHATI: The floods in Assam have been vicious and it continues to cause destruction in many localities of the state.
 
More than 42 lakh people have been affected and 15 have been declared dead, following the floods in Assam.
 
Based on the latest update by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), approximately 42,86,421 people have been affected by these floods.

Since July 15, 2019, a total of 4,157 villages and 113 revenue circles of 30 districts including Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Sonitpur, Darrang, Udalguri, Baksa, Barpeta, Nalbari, Chirang, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, Dhubri, South Salmara, Goalpara, Kamrup, Kamrup (M), Morigaon, Hojai, Nagaon, Golaghat, Majuli, Jorhat, Sivsagar, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Cachar, KarbiAnglong, Hailakandi, Karimganj have been victims of the flood situation.

At present, 183 relief camps are operational in districts such as Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Sonitpur, Baksa, Darrang, Nalbari, Barpeta, Chirang, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, Dhubri, Goalpara, Kamrup, Morigaon, Nagaon, Hojai, Golaghat, Majuli, Jorhat, Sibsagar, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Cachar, Karimganj and Karbi Anglong with 83,180 inmates.

311 Relief Distribution Centres have also been set up in the districts of Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Nalbari, Barpeta, Kokrajhar, Kamrup, Morigaon, Nogaon,Hojai, Golaghat, Majuli, Sibsagar, Dibrugarh and Tinsukia.

It should be noted that the level of Brahmaputra river has crossed the danger level in Guwahati as well as in other districts of the state. 

NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) and SDRF (State Disaster Response Force) teams have also been pressed into service in the flood-affected areas for search and rescue operation.
