Assam Extends Tax Relief For Tea Industry

GUWAHATI: The Assam cabinet has approved the extension of tax exemption for the tea industry on cess levied on green tea leaves. The relief will be applicable for another two years, and has been held applicable from January 1, 2025.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma revealed this decision following a state cabinet meeting held on Thursday, March 27.

The measure has been implemented to support Assam’s tea industry by reducing financial burdens on producers. Earlier, the cess exemption was already introduced on an initial basis to provide economic relief to the sector.

Additionally, the cabinet has approved the conversion of Nayekgaon Pt I PRF under BTC Kokrajhar/Haltugaon into a Reserve Forest, covering a total area of 774 hectares. Of the total 774 hectares, 180 hectares have been designated as the new reserve forest.
