Assam: Excise Department Seizes Illegal Liquor from Sonapur, Bust Bottling Plant at Jorabat

GUWAHATI: The Excise Intelligence Bureau (EIB) on 15th October seized a huge consignment of IMFL liquor in Sonapur.


Acting on a tip-off, the sleuths of the EIB seized the consignment from the Tetelia area of Sonapur near NH 37.


Two people were arrested while they were heading from Himalayan Distillery Pvt Limited (factory) to M/S Borgohain Enterprises Bonded Warehouse Pvt Ltd in Mariani, under Jorhat District.


The apprehended persons were identified as Ranjan Daimary and Habibul Haque. 


On the basis of their statement two more people namely Digonta Neog and Dinesh Rabha are reportedly absconding.  A search operation has also been launched by the Excise Intelligence Bureau officials at their respective residences in 12th mile, Guwahati. 
 

“The excise department presently provides online challans carrying bar codes in it. However, the apprehended persons presented the invalid challans before the EIB officials which had been discontinued by the department way back in the year 2016,” informed officials.


Six months back the department had seized illegal liquor from a nearby compound of Himalayan Distillery Pvt Limited (factory) and registered a case against the persons involved. Two people were detained for their alleged involvement in the illegal bottling of IMLF liquors.  


Excise Minister Parimal Suklabaidya urged the authority to take strict action against the concerned factory officer in charge and the Kamrup Metro Enforcement in-charge in this regard.


In another instance, a Special Excise Team has detected an illegal bottling plant at 14th Mile and recovered 918 cases of IMFL and approximately 4000 litres of ENA along with the machineries of the bottling plant.
