Assam Electricity Tariff to Fall by 15 to 40 Paise/Unit from April

GUWAHATI: Effective from April 1, the tariffs for Assam Power Generation Company Limited (APGCL) have been reduced by 15 to 40 paise per unit across all categories.

The Assam Electricity Regulatory Commission in a statement said, "On analysis, it was seen that around 6.1 per cent of the aggregate revenue requirement (ARR) of the APDCL comprises fixed costs. However, only 15 per cent of the annual revenue requirement is recovered through fixed/demand charges. Hence, the Commission has increased the fixed/demand charges for most categories, except 2-3 categories where the fixed/demand charges are already higher than that of other categories.”

Earlier on the Assam Budget Day, Assam State Finance Minister said that Assam government will provide Rs. 400 Crore to APDCL for providing tariff relief to the general public.

It is to be mentioned that the tariff is completely decided by the regulatory commission and every year the company has to place a proposal on whether to hike the tariff or reduce the same.
