Assam: Doctor And Nurse Of LGB Civil Hospital Jailed For Medical Negligence

GUWAHATI: Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Dr Chetana Khanikar has sentenced Dr. Mamoni Dutta and Nurse Bimala Dutta of the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi Civil Hospital in Tinsukia, in a case of death due to medical negligence.

According to a report in Assam Tribune, the duos have been sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for two years and with a fine of Rs. 3000 each.
 
Earlier on October 2013, a man named Pradip Kakoti was admitted to the LGB Civil Hospital with prodromes of malaria was given saline by Nurse Bimala Dutta and the attending doctor, Dr. Mamoni Dutta, asked the patient’s attendant to bring a Falcigo injection.

However, the within couple of hours the patient, Pradip Kakoti, died.

Reportedly when the family of the deceased came to collect his body it was found that the Falcigo injection which was asked by Dr. Mamoni Dutta for the patient's treatment was lying on the table.

Challenging in case in the court, the prosecution examined nine witnesses, seven pieces of documentary evidence and two material exhibits.

In the meanwhile, the judgement also stated that under Section 428 of the CrPC, the period of detention already undergone by the accused would be adjusted against the sentence.
