Assam: Dibrugarh Man Arrested For Allegedly Molesting Woman In Bank Queue

GUWAHATI: Dibrugarh police on Wednesday, September 15, arrested a man whose alleged molestation of a woman standing in front of him in a bank queue was captured on a video that went viral on social media. 

The incident took place at the State Bank of India’s Thana Charali branch in Dibrugarh on Monday, September 13. 

 

Special Director General of Police (DGP) Law and Order GP Singh shared news of the arrest on Twitter. 

"Reference viral video of molestation in SBI Dibrugarh branch. A case has been registered to vide Dbr PS Case no. 1793/21 u/s 354A/509 IPC. The accused has been identified as Ritu Raj Saikia and arrested by @dibrugarhpolice. Lawful action being taken," he wrote. 

The arrest comes after widespread public outrage against the incident, the casual and overt nature of which has left many shocked. 

Following a social media backlash, the accused was trying to make his getaway from Dibrugarh and was arrested from a bus while trying to leave town, it has been reliably learnt.
