GUWAHATI: The Assam government has issued an official notification on February 5, announcing administrative changes within the state's mining sector.

N. Anand, Chief Conservator of Forests (Social Forestry), has been relieved of his additional responsibilities as Managing Director of Assam Mineral Development Corporation Ltd. and Director of Geology and Mining, Assam.
The decision comes amidst growing concerns over regulatory oversight and safety measures in the state's mining sector, particularly following recent incidents such as the Umrangso incident.
Paragmoni Mahanta, currently serving as Director of Handloom & Textiles, Assam, has been appointed to take over the roles of Director of Geology and Mining, Assam, and Managing Director of Assam Mineral Development Corporation Ltd. He will continue to hold his existing position as Director of Handloom & Textiles, Assam.
